At Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, we take great pride in being the small sanctuary with the big heart. Over the decades we have taken animals in from a variety of circumstances, some have been badly neglected, some have been mistreated and some are simply no longer wanted by their owners. Often exotic animals become too large, too “wild” or too costly for their owners. many have long lifespans, require specialist veterinary care and need lots of time and space to keep them healthy.
Our mission is not only to provide a haven for exotic animals but also to ensure that they are chrished and nurtured in an environment where they can thrive and flourish. We do our best to ensure their complex needs are catered for, for many we are able to give them a second chance at a life. You won’t see Lions and Tigers at Gentleshaw, but you will see a mixture of mammals, birds of prey and reptiles, all with individual stories about how they came to call Gentleshaw home.

From the mesmerizing Barn Owl, gracefully soaring through the skies with an almost mystical silence, to the mischievous Caracara, forever vigilant in her quest for hidden snacks beneath rocks and along the footpaths, each member of our aerial ensemble promises an experience that will leave you spellbound.
These captivating flying displays are scheduled for 2 pm during most school holidays and weekends, from April through to October, weather permitting. It’s a delightful opportunity to witness nature’s aerial wonders up close, so bring your family and friends to share in the wonder of these incredible birds in action.
